Sir Timothy O’Shea

Former Principal, The University of Edinburgh

Professor Sir Timothy O鈥橲hea FRSE, Former Principal of the University of Edinburgh. A computer scientist, he is a graduate of the Universities of Sussex and Leeds. He became Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh in 2002.

Professor O鈥橲hea is Chair of: the Scottish Institute for Enterprise; the Board of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society; and Newbattle Abbey College Trust. He is Convener of the Scottish Government鈥檚 Further and Higher Education Sector Oversight Board for Information and Communications Technology. He holds honorary degrees from Heriot Watt University, the University of Strathclyde, McGill University and Saint Petersburg University of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Professor O鈥橲hea was awarded a Knighthood in the Queen鈥檚 2008 New Year鈥檚 Honours List in recognition of his services to higher education.
